NEW ORLEANS – The 2026 Sun Belt Conference women’s soccer league schedule is underway with six contests across four consecutive days beginning Thursday, September 17 when Troy visits South Alabama.
 
Georgia Southern earned a 3-0 home victory over Arkansas State in the first official Sun Belt match of the year on Sept. 13.
 
FIRE MEETS ICE
Louisiana’s (6-2-1) potent offense welcomes a stifling defense to Lafayette on Sunday afternoon for its league opener against Coastal Carolina (5-2-1). The Ragin’ Cajuns lead the Sun Belt in points per game (7.89) and total goals (27) and rank second in shots on goal per game (7.22) while being led by the conference’s leading goal scorer (8) and 2026 Sun Belt Preseason Midfielder of the Year Miku Kurihara. She ranks No. 5 nationally in goals and No. 7 in points (18), while standing in the top 25 in shots on goal per game (2.00). For the Chanticleers, reigning Sun Belt Defensive Player of the Week and goalkeeper Aris Lamanna leads the conference in goals against average (0.63), save percentage (.884) and shutouts (5), as her quintet of clean sheets is tied for third most in NCAA Division I.
 
MOUNTAINEER MOMENTUM
App State (5-1-2) enters Sun Belt action riding a seven-game unbeaten streak, matching the program record last achieved in 2007. The Mountaineers’ five non-conference wins are their most since 2016, as they’ve also compiled four shutouts outside of league play. App State currently leads the conference and ranks No. 19 nationally in corner kicks per game (7.5). The Mountaineers closed Sun Belt play last season with back-to-back wins and look to build on their winning streak at home against Georgia State (5-2-1) on Friday evening.
 
ROBERTS RETURNS
In his first season as the head coach at Old Dominion, reigning Sun Belt Coach of the Year Will Roberts returns to Monroe, La., to battle ULM on Sept. 18 and face the program he led the previous three seasons. The winningest coach in Warhawks soccer history, Roberts compiled a 31-13-5 (.653) overall record which included a 2025 Sun Belt regular season championship and a runner-up finish in the Sun Belt tournament. Friday’s matchup between the Monarchs and Warhawks also represents a semifinal rematch from the 2025 Sun Belt tournament in Foley, Ala., where ULM held on for a 3-2 victory.
 
CAJUNS CAPITALIZE
Louisiana defeated 15th-ranked and former conference foe Texas State, 3-2, at home on Sept. 10, becoming the first Sun Belt women’s soccer program to defeat a ranked opponent since South Alabama defeated No. 1 Florida State in 2016. The victory was also the first against a ranked team in Ragin’ Cajuns soccer history.
 
SUN BELT IN THE RPI
As of Monday, Sept. 14, the Sun Belt has four teams ranked in the top 100 of the latest NCAA RPI rankings, led by No. 55 Louisiana and No. 58 Georgia Southern. They are trailed by No. 82 Old Dominion and No. 83 App State.
 
FINDING FOLEY
The 2026 Sun Belt Conference Women’s Soccer Championship will take place November 9-14 in Foley, Ala., marking the 11th-consecutive season the Foley Sports Tourism Complex hosts the event. Eight teams will compete in the tournament beginning with quarterfinal matches on Monday, Nov. 9, followed by semifinal matches on Wednesday, Nov. 11 and the championship on Saturday, Nov. 14.
