Sun Belt Football Puts .607 Winning Percentage on the Line in Week 3 Play

WEEK 3 CONFERENCE NOTES

NEW ORLEANS
– The Sun Belt, which owns a .607 winning percentage through two weeks of competition, will aim to build upon that mark with a 14-game non-conference slate on Saturday, Sept. 19.

The Week 3 schedule includes five nationally-televised games, four opportunities against autonomy conference opposition, three road bouts against Conference USA foes and three home dates with American Conference opponents.

WHAT TO WATCH FOR
  • KEEP THE STREAK – The Sun Belt, which is 4-0 in head-to-head matchups with Conference USA in 2026, will attempt to keep that unbeaten streak alive in three road bouts on Saturday, Sept. 19. Coastal Carolina visits Delaware at 10:30 a.m. on CBS Sports Network; Marshall travels to Missouri State at 5:30 p.m. on CBS Sports Network; and Georgia Southern crosses the border to take on Jacksonville State at 6:00 p.m. on ESPN+. Saturday’s matchup will be the first-ever between the Chanticleers and Blue Hens. Missouri State owns a 1-0 all-time edge over the Thundering Herd, earning a come-from-behind 21-20 win in Huntington a year ago. Georgia Southern is 5-0 all-time against Jacksonville State, including a 41-34 win in Statesboro last season.
  • OPPORTUNITY KNOCKS – Four Sun Belt programs—Louisiana Tech, Georgia State, Troy and Arkansas State—will hit the road for autonomy conference matchups on Saturday, Sept. 19. Louisiana Tech visits Baylor at 3:00 p.m. on ESPNU; Georgia State travels to UCF at 6:00 p.m. on ESPN+; Troy takes on No. 20/22 Missouri at 6 p.m. on SEC Network+; and Arkansas State squares off against TCU at 7:00 p.m. on ESPNU. Louisiana Tech owns one win over Baylor in six prior meetings, while Georgia State and UCF are meeting for the first time in program history. Arkansas State is 0-2 against TCU and Troy claims a 1-3 record versus Missouri. The Sun Belt owns 12 wins over autonomy conference opponents since 2022 and also posted a three-game sweep over Big 12—of which Baylor, UCF and TCU are members—opposition on Sept. 12, 2020.
  • RIGHT AT HOME – Following road losses a week ago, Sun Belt West Division programs ULM, South Alabama and Southern Miss will aim to use their home field advantages to return to the win column. ULM hosts in-state FCS foe Southeastern Louisiana at 3:30 p.m. on ESPN+; South Alabama welcomes Ohio to Mobile at 6:00 p.m. on ESPN+; and Southern Miss takes on UConn at 6:00 p.m. on ESPN+. ULM is 2-0 against Southeastern Louisiana since joining the Sun Belt for its inaugural football season in 2001. Ohio won the lone prior meeting with South Alabama, 27-20, in 2024 and Saturday’s meeting will be the first-ever between the Golden Eagles and the Huskies.
  • ALL AMERICAN – Three Sun Belt teams—App State, Old Dominion and Louisiana—will play host to American Conference opposition on Saturday, Sept. 19. App State will host in-state foe Charlotte in front of a sold out crowd at 5 p.m. on ESPN+; Old Dominion will welcome East Carolina to Norfolk at 5 p.m. on ESPN+; and Louisiana will take on UAB at 7 p.m. on ESPN+. Both East Carolina, which is coming off a 27-24 loss to App State, and UAB, which is coming off a 26-20 win over ULM, are facing Sun Belt opponents for a second-straight week. The Mountaineers are 4-0 all-time against the 49ers, while the Monarchs will be searching for their first-ever win over the Pirates. The Ragin’ Cajuns have won three-straight over the Blazers, dating back to 2002.
  • OUT WEST – James Madison will make the trek to San Diego State for a 9:00 p.m. kickoff on Saturday, Sept. 19, on CW. The matchup is the first-ever between the two programs and the Dukes’ first-ever game in the state of California. James Madison is 4-0 all-time against current members of the Pac-12, including a 52-20 win over Texas State and a 24-20 win over Washington State a year ago. The Dukes have won five of their last six road openers and are 17-7 in road games at the FBS level—a total that trails only Tulane (19) and Oregon (18) since 2022.
