NEW ORLEANS – The second half of the second week of the 2026 Sun Belt Conference women’s soccer league schedule features a full, seven-match slate on Sunday, September 27. All seven contests will be broadcast on ESPN+.
HOME FIELD ADVANTAGE
Five Sun Belt teams are unbeaten on their home fields this season, while three of them will play at home on Sunday afternoon including Georgia Southern (4-0-1), Marshall (2-0-2) and South Alabama (3-0-1). Georgia Southern will host Coastal Carolina in Statesboro, Ga., as the Eagles’ streak extends back to six in a row to Oct. 24 of last season. Meanwhile, Marshall welcomes James Madison to Huntington, W.Va., where the Thundering Herd are unbeaten in nine-consecutive outings and six-straight Sun Belt contests dating back to the end of the 2024 campaign. South Alabama hosts Georgia State in Mobile, Ala., as the Jaguars are also unbeaten in their last nine home matches and are 6-0-3 in conference matches at The Cage dating back to Oct. 13, 2024. Also unbeaten at home this season, but playing on the road Sunday, is Georgia State (5-0-0) and Coastal Carolina (5-0-1).
BRICK WALLS
Through two league matches and 180 total minutes of action, just three Sun Belt teams have not surrendered a goal: App State, James Madison and Old Dominion. Collectively, the back lines have been stingy at best, allowing just seven shots on goal combined between the three teams. App State has allowed just one total shot on goal, followed by Old Dominion with two and James Madison with four. App State hosts Old Dominion on Sunday in Boone, N.C.
MOUNTAINEER METHODS
App State is riding a program-best, nine-game unbeaten streak (7-0-2) and improved to 5-0-1 in road matches this season with a 2-0 victory at Louisiana Tech on Thursday evening. The Mountaineers have allowed just four goals during the stretch and just seven total on the year. App State ranks in the top 20 nationally with 7.7 corner kicks per game and third-year midfielder Ellie Garrison is tied for third in the Sun Belt with six goals after scoring twice against the Bulldogs on Thursday night. Additionally, second-year goalkeeper Hanna Skogsfors leads the conference with a 0.59 goals against average for one of the league’s toughest defensive units.
UNBEATEN STREAKS
Entering Sunday’s action, App State holds a Sun Belt-leading nine-match unbeaten streak, followed by Louisiana at four straight (3-0-1), South Alabama (2-0-1), Marshall (2-0-1) and James Madison (2-0-1) at three in a row.
SUN BELT IN THE RPI
As of Monday, Sept. 21, the Sun Belt has four teams ranked in the top 100 of the latest NCAA RPI rankings, led by No. 42 Georgia Southern and No. 56 Louisiana. They are trailed by No. 61 App State and No. 99 Old Dominion.
FINDING FOLEY
The 2026 Sun Belt Conference Women’s Soccer Championship will take place November 9-14 in Foley, Ala., marking the 11th-consecutive season the Foley Sports Tourism Complex hosts the event. Eight teams will compete in the tournament beginning with quarterfinal matches on Monday, Nov. 9, followed by semifinal matches on Wednesday, Nov. 11 and the championship on Saturday, Nov. 14.
