Conference Awards

MEN'S SPORTS
Baseball
All-Conference first and second team: 14 student-athletes will be awarded for first-team all-conference designation, while 14 student-athletes will be awarded for second-team all-conference designation. These individuals shall be presented an award from the Conference office: Player of the Year; Pitcher of the Year; Freshman of the Year; Newcomer of the Year; Ron Maestri Coach of the Year.

The All-Conference team and individual awards shall be voted on by the head coaches and the balloting shall be conducted by the conference office. Coaches are permitted to nominate players for balloting, but are not allowed to vote for their own players.

One award shall be presented to the Most Outstanding Player of the tournament. The Most Outstanding Player shall be selected by a committee of voters appointed by the Tournament Director. Thirteen awards shall be presented to members of the All-Tournament team. The All-Tournament team shall be selected by the head coaches and selected media members, and the balloting shall be conducted by the Tournament Media Coordinator.

Football
All-Conference first team, second team, newcomer team and honorable mention: 12 offensive players, 12 defensive players, three special teams players and an all-purpose player will make up the first and second teams. The newcomer team will consist of one student-athlete from each institution which will be selected by their institution to be placed on the “All Sun Belt Conference Newcomer Team”. To be eligible for this award, the student-athlete must have just completed his first year of competition at the nominating member institution – whether that be as a redshirt freshman, true freshman, or transfer. The honorable mention team will consist of four (4) student-athletes that did not make either the first, second or newcomer teams and are selected by the institutional head coach. These individuals shall be presented an award from the Conference office: Player of the Year; Offensive Player of the Year; Defensive Player of the Year; Freshman of the Year; Newcomer of the Year; Coach of the Year

The All-Conference team and individual awards shall be voted on by the head coaches and selected members of the media.

The balloting shall be conducted by the conference office. Coaches are permitted to nominate players for balloting, but are not allowed to vote for their own players.

WOMEN'S SPORTS
Soccer
Eleven student-athletes will be awarded for first-team all-conference designation, while 11 student-athletes will be awarded for second-team all-conference designation.

These individuals shall be presented an award from the Conference office: Offensive Player of the Year; Freshman of the Year; Defensive Player of the Year; Newcomer of the Year; Coach of the Year.

The All-Conference team shall be voted on by the head coaches and the balloting shall be conducted by the conference office. Coaches are permitted to nominate players for balloting, but are not allowed to vote for their own players.

Eleven awards presented to members of the All-Tournament team. One award will be presented to the player selected as the Most Outstanding Player of the Championship. This shall be the individual on the championship team receiving the most votes.

The All-Tournament team shall be selected by the head coaches, and the balloting shall be conducted by the Tournament Media Coordinator

Softball
15 student-athletes will be awarded for first-team all-conference designation, while 15 student-athletes will be awarded for second-team all-conference designation.

MEN'S/WOMEN'S SPORTS
Basketball
All-Conference Team: The First Team All-Conference team shall consist of five players, Second Team All-Conference team shall consist of five players, and Third Team All-Conference team shall consist of five players. These individuals shall be presented an award from the Conference office: Player of the Year; Freshman of the Year; Defensive Player of the Year; Newcomer of the Year; Joe Gottfried Coach of the Year (MEN) and Coach of the Year (WOMEN).

The team shall be voted on by the head coaches and a selected group of media members. Coaches are permitted to nominate players for balloting, but are not allowed to vote for their own players.

One award shall be presented to the Most Outstanding Player of the tournament. The Most Outstanding Player shall be the individual on the championship team who received the most All-tournament votes. Five awards shall be presented to the players selected as the all-tournament team. The All-Tournament team shall be voted on by selected media members, and the balloting shall be conducted by the Tournament Media Coordinator.

Cross Country
Most Outstanding Performer Awards: Two awards (one for men and one for women) shall be presented to the runners winning the men's and women's races.

Freshman of the Year: Two awards (one for men and one for women) shall be presented to the top freshman finisher.

Newcomer of the Year: Two awards (one for men and one for women) shall be presented to the Newcomer of the Year voted on by the head coaches following the championship. This award is open to all players who are in their first year of competition at the current member institution, including freshmen. Coaches cannot vote for their own student-athletes. The voting shall be conducted by the Conference office.

The All-Conference awards shall be presented based solely on the finish at the men's and women's conference championships. Both men and women shall be presented all-conference awards in the following manner: First Team: 5 awards shall be presented to the top 5 finishers (1-5), Second Team: 5 awards shall be presented to the 6th through 10th finishers, Third Team: 5 awards shall be presented to the 11th through 15th finishers.

Golf
Individual Champion Award: Two awards (one for men and one for women) shall be presented to the individual champions.

The head coaches shall participate in a nomination and voting process to complete the All-Conference Teams. The coaches shall rank in preferred order the top golfers from the fall and spring season, based on statistical information provided by the conference and head coaches. An official ballot shall be provided to the head coaches, who shall complete and return it by the stated deadline. Coaches shall not be allowed to vote for their own players. First Team All-Conference: The top six (6) vote getters (1-6) shall be named to First Team All-Conference. Second Team All-Conference: The next six (6) vote getters (7-12) shall be named to Second Team All-Conference. Third Team All-Conference (MEN ONLY): The next six (6) vote getters (13-18) shall be named to Third Team All-Conference. All-Tournament Team (WOMEN ONLY): The top six (6) finishers at the conference championship tournament shall be named to the All-Tournament Team.

Golfer of the Year: Two awards (one for men and one for women) shall be presented to the top vote getter.

Freshman of the Year: Two awards (one for men and one for women) shall be presented to the top vote getter.

Newcomer of the Year: Two awards (one for men and one for women) shall be presented to the Newcomer of the Year voted on by the head coaches following the championship. This award is open to all players who are in their first year of competition at the current member institution, including freshmen.

Coach of the Year: Two awards (one for men and one for women) shall be presented to the top vote getter.

The individual awards shall be voted on by the head coaches following the championship. Coaches are permitted to nominate players for balloting, but are not allowed to vote for their own players.

Tennis
12 men's awards (6 singles awards; 6 doubles awards) and 12 women's awards (6 singles awards; 6 doubles awards) shall be presented to the members of the All-Conference First and Second Teams.

The All Conference teams shall be determined by ITA rankings up to an ITA Ranking of 125 for singles and up to an ITA Ranking of 75 in doubles.  In doubles, should a student-athlete be ranked on two doubles teams, only the institution’s highest ranked doubles team will receive all-conference recognition.  If ITA ranked student-athletes do not fill the First and Second All-Conference teams, the remainder of the teams will be determined by a vote of the head coaches and the balloting shall be conducted by the conference office.  Coaches are not allowed to vote for their own student-athletes.  All-Conference teams shall be divided into singles units consisting of twelve members and doubles units consisting of six tandems.  In order for a student-athlete to be considered for all-conference in singles, he/she must have competed in a minimum of 10 matches during the current season. In order for a doubles team to be eligible for all-conference consideration, the team must have played together in a minimum of 8 matches during the current season. The “current season” shall be defined as both the Fall and Spring seasons.

Player of the Year: Two awards (one for men and one for women) shall be presented to the top vote getter.

Newcomer of the Year: Two awards shall be presented to the Newcomer of the Year (one for men and one for women). The Newcomer of the Year awards shall be voted on by the head coaches/coach’s representative and the balloting shall be conducted by the conference office. Coaches are limited to nominating a maximum of one player per team. Institutions are not allowed to vote for their own player. This award is open to all players who are in their first year of competition at the current member institution, including freshmen.

The All-Conference individual awards shall be voted on by the head coaches following the championship. Coaches are permitted to nominate players for balloting, but are not allowed to vote for their own players.

Indoor/Outdoor Track & Field
Most Outstanding Performance Awards: Four awards (one for men's track, one for men's field, one for women's track and one for women's field) shall be presented to the persons winning the Most Outstanding Performance awards. The Most Outstanding Performance awards shall be voted on by the head coaches following the championship. The voting shall be conducted by the Conference office. Coaches are not allowed to vote for their own student-athletes.

Freshman of the Year: One award shall be presented to the athlete voted Freshman of the Year. The head coaches shall vote on the Freshman of the Year award and the conference office shall conduct the balloting following the championship. Coaches are not allowed to vote for their own player. This award is open to student-athletes participating in any event who are freshman, true or otherwise.

Newcomer of the Year: Two awards (one for men and one for women) shall be presented to the Newcomer of the Year voted on by the head coaches following the championship. This award is open to all players who are in their first year of competition at the current member institution, including freshmen. Coaches cannot vote for their own student-athletes.

Top Meet Scorer Awards: Two awards (one for men and one for women) shall be presented to the persons scoring the most individual points in the championship.

Coach of the Year Awards: One award shall be presented to the person winning the Men's Coach of the Year award, and one award shall be presented to the person winning Women's Coach of the Year award. The Coach of the Year awards shall be voted on by the head coaches following the championship. The voting shall be conducted by the Conference office.

First, second and third team All-Conference teams are made up by medal recipients based on the highest place finish each student-athlete receives. First Team All-Conference: All student-athletes receiving a gold medal. Second Team All-Conference: All student-athletes that had a highest place finish of a silver medal. Third Team All-Conference: All student-athletes that had a highest place finish of a bronze medal.

Academic Awards (All Sports)
Academic Awards: At the conclusion of the season, the conference office shall recognize those student athletes who have met or exceeded academic excellence. The list of awards include:

Conference Medallion
Any Sun Belt Conference student-athlete who successfully completes graduation requirements at a member institution shall be awarded a graduation Medallion awarded by the Conference. The Conference Medallion may be worn during graduation ceremonies.

Commissioner's All-Academic List
The Commissioner's All- Academic List is a compilation of all student-athletes to be honored for academic achievement. Student-athletes must attain a minimum 3.5 grade point average (based on a 4.0 scale) during the current academic year not as a cumulative average.

Academic Honor Roll
The Academic Honor Roll is a compilation of all student-athletes to be honored for academic achievement. Student-athletes must attain a minimum 3.5 grade point average (based on a 4.0 scale) during the current academic year not as a cumulative average.
