SUN BELT WOMEN'S SOCCER TIEBREAKING PROCEDURES
Seeding: The seeds for the Sun Belt Women's Soccer Championship shall be determined based on each team’s regular season conference finish (point system). The two division winners shall be seeded #1 and #2. If there is a tie atop the division standings, the tie within the division shall be broken first to determine the two teams that will be seeded #1 and #2. The tiebreaking procedure below shall be used to break the tie within the division.
Two Teams Tiebreaking Formula
1. The highest point total of head-to-head competition during the regular season will be used to determine a higher seed.2. If still tied, the total score difference from all regular season divisional matches versus common opponents will be used to determine a higher seed. A goal difference of +/-4 goals is the maximum allowed per match.
3. If still tied, the highest number of goals scored from all regular season divisional matches versus common opponents will be used to determine a higher seed.
4. If still tied, the higher seed shall be determined by a coin toss by the Commissioner.
Three or More Teams Tiebreaking Formula
1. If all teams have played each other, the highest point total earned in matches involving the tied teams shall be declared the higher seed.
2. If still tied, the total score difference from all regular season divisional matches versus common opponents will be used to determine the higher seed. A goal difference of +/- 4 goals is the maximum allowed per match.
3. If still tied, the highest number of goals scored from all regular season divisional matches versus common opponents will be used to determine a higher seed.
4. If a tie still exists, the seeded position of the teams will be determined by a draw conducted by the Sun Belt Conference Commissioner.
5. For all ties of three or more teams, the progression of the tiebreaker shall be followed until the highest seed amongst the tied is determined. If one team falls out of contention for the higher seed, the remaining teams will continue down the tiebreaker until a higher seed is determined. Once the highest seed is determined, said team is removed from the pool of tied team and the tie of the remaining tied teams is broken by starting over from the beginning of the applicable tiebreaker.
The division champion with the best overall regular season conference finish (point system) in all conference matches shall be the overall #1 seed. If the two division champions are tied in conference finish (points system), the tiebreaking procedure below shall be used to break the tie.
After the division champions are seeded #1 and #2, seeds #3 through #8 shall be determined based on each team’s regular season conference finish (points system), regardless of division. In the event of a tie for a particular seed, the tiebreaking procedure below shall be used to break the tie.
