Shear joined the Sun Belt Conference in June 2022 as Assistant Commissioner, Communications & Branding, and transitioned to her current role as Assistant Commissioner, Championships & Sport Administration, in June 2024.
As the primary communications contact for men’s soccer, Shear aided in the marketing and promotion of both regular season and postseason accomplishments. This included the Sun Belt’s Top-5 ranked contest between No. 1 Marshall and No. 3 West Virginia that soared to over 30,000 viewers on ESPN+, marking the highest viewership for a match in Sun Belt men’s soccer history.
Working in conjunction with a team of sleep specialists, Shear spearheaded “Sun Belt Sleep to Rise,” an initiative aimed to educate student-athletes, coaches, and administrators on the crucial role sleep plays in both physical and mental health. As part of the campaign, she gathered crucial resources from each member institution, worked with doctors to coordinate online and in-person workshops, and designed “Future Champion at Rest” door hangers and "Sun Belt Sleep to Rise" eye masks that were gifted to student-athletes and coaches at all 2023-24 Sun Belt Conference Championships.
In her first year at the Sun Belt, Shear played a pivotal role in the media outreach and marketing around the conference-record four football victories over autonomy five opponents during the 2022 season, which included designing billboards in Times Square in New York City. Engagements on social media reached 441,883 in her first year (2022), a 100 percent increase over 2021 and 232 percent increase over 2020.
Shear also helped organize the 2022 Sun Belt Basketball Media Days - the first in-person media event for Sun Belt basketball in a decade - and served on the Sun Belt’s strategic planning committees for men’s and women’s basketball and softball.
Shear came to the Sun Belt following a two-year stint at George Washington University as the Director of Men’s Basketball Operations. In this role, Shear oversaw all scheduling, budgeting, and travel logistics for GW’s men’s basketball team, while also spearheading GW’s Leroy Charles Mentorship program, which aimed to connect student-athletes with notable and accomplished alumni to expand their network and develop their professional skills. Shear also acted as the primary support contact to all members of the GW men's basketball staff. In addition, she oversaw all internal and external communications within all facets of the program while managing all aspects of student-athlete welfare, academic success, and career development initiatives. Furthermore, Shear acted as the program's name, image and likeness liaison, spearheaded branding and marketing efforts, assisted with fundraising, and coordinated special events.
Shear got her start at GW as an intern with Athletics Communications in 2015-16 and joined as a full time Athletics Communications Associate after she graduated summa cum laude from GW with a Bachelor of Arts in Communication in 2017. As the primary social media strategist, she developed a strategic plan for GW’s main social media accounts and played an instrumental role in crafting a unique and consistent voice for each of GW’s 27 sport NCAA Division I athletics programs.
Shear completed her Masters of Communications Management at GW in May 2022.
She is an active member of Women Leaders in Sports (2022-Present) and the National Association of Collegiate Directors of Athletics (NACDA). She was previously a member of College Sports Communicators (CSC) and the National Association of Basketball Coaches (NABC).
