Red Wolves Continue Hot Start in SBC Play
The Arkansas State Red Wolves jumped out to a 4-0 record early in conference play and has won 20 straight conference matches, which is the second longest in school history in the Sun Belt behind 51 straight we won from 1991 through the first league match of 1997.
Warrington Earns Sixth Consecutive Honor
Mallory Warrington’s sixth straight Setter of the Week award is the most consecutive awards won since it was introduced in 2013. Sixth straight weekly awards of any kind at least ties a school record from when Carlisa May won six straight Freshman of the Week awards last year.
A-State Record Watch
Warrington has 3,702 assists for her career to rank fourth in school history and is just 27 away from passing Kelly Linder’s total of 3,728 for third most in school history. Markie Schaedig has 1,901 digs in her career, which is third most in school history, and trails Megan Baska by 289 digs for second all-time.
Georgia Southern’s Beecher Honored by SBC
Georgia Southern libero Alex Beecher was named the league’s Defensive Player of the Week after leading the Eagles to a 2-0 record last week. Beecher averaged 4.62 digs and 1.75 assists per set in a 2-0 week for the Eagles. She logged 23 digs and nine assists against South Alabama, giving her 41 career matches with 20-plus digs, and added 14 digs and five assists against Troy.
UTA’s Murata Named Freshman of the Week
After etching her name in the UT Arlington volleyball record books with her defensive performance over the weekend, libero Taylor Murata was named Sun Belt Freshman of the Week. Murata collected 28 digs overall in matches against Appalachian State and Coastal Carolina, moving her into 10th in single-season freshman digs list (327). Her impressive week opened with a 10-dig performance in a 3-0 win over Appalachian State Friday. Against East Division favorite and SBC newcomer Coastal Carolina Saturday, she stepped up her game even more, recording 18 digs in just three sets.
