No. 1 Texas State Tops No. 4 Little Rock, 3-1, in Sun Belt Volleyball Championship Semifinal

ATLANTA – Top-seeded Texas State advanced to its fourth tournament final in six years with a 3-1 victory (25-18, 25-21, 24-26, 25-23) over fourth-seeded Little Rock in the second semifinal of the 2018 Sun Belt Conference Volleyball Championship.
 
The Bobcats move on to the championship match against second-seeded Appalachian State on Sunday
at 1:00 p.m. ET at the GSU Sports Arena.
 
Texas State had three Bobcats with double-digit kills – freshman outside hitter Janell Fitzgerald with 18, senior middle blocker Madison Daigle with 15 and junior outside hitter Cheyenne Huskey with 14 – to go along with a match-high 21 digs from junior defensive specialist Micah Dinwiddie and 46 assists from freshman setter Emily DeWalt.
 
Little Rock senior middle blocker Veronica Marin had 14 kills and recorded two blocks to move her NCAA Division I leading total to 182.
 
Texas State grabbed control of the match from the start, taking the first two sets. In the first set, the two teams traded points in the early going and the score sat at 12-12 until the Bobcats went on a three-point run to take the lead. Little Rock continued to battle until Texas State racked up seven points in a row to take the first set 25-18. In the second set, the Bobcats grabbed the lead for good after the score was tied 5-5. The Trojans pulled within two points a couple of times but Texas State would not relinquish the lead, winning the set 25-21.
 
Little Rock came to life in the third after being down 11-4 to start the set. The Trojans put together a seven-point run of their own to tie things up. The set would be tied 11 more times after that. At 24-24, Little Rock got a kill from sophomore outside hitter Mya Robinson and a Bobcat error to win the set and back into the match.
 
Texas State closed out the win in the fourth set, thanks to a couple of three-point runs to extend its lead to 20-15. With the Bobcats’ lead at 23-17, the Trojans stormed back into the set with six of the next seven points to pull within one. A kill from Daigle sealed the set and the match for Texas State.
