Appalachian State, Little Rock, Arkansas State Make 2018 NIVC Field

FORT COLLINS, Colo. – Appalachian State, Little Rock and Arkansas State are among the 32 teams selected to participate in the 2018 National Invitational Volleyball Championship.
 
All three Sun Belt Conference squads open postseason play on Thursday, Nov. 29. Appalachian State (22-8. 13-3 Sun Belt) takes on Radford in Clemson, S.C. at 3:00 p.m. ET. Little Rock (19-12, 10-6) and Arkansas State (19-13, 9-7) travel to New Orleans with the Trojans facing California Baptist at 5:00 p.m. CT and the Red Wolves taking on host Tulane at 7:00 p.m. CT. Second-round matches are scheduled for Friday, Nov. 30.
 
Joining Texas State in the NCAA Division I Women’s Volleyball Championship, the Sun Belt boasts its most teams in the postseason in conference history. The conference sent three teams to the NCAA Tournament in three consecutive seasons from 2007-09 and had three teams in the postseason last year (Coastal Carolina in the NCAA Tournament and Arkansas State and Texas State in the NIVC).

Appalachian, making its first postseason appearance since 1994, is one of seven schools to receive an automatic bid to the NIVC. Arkansas State moves on the postseason for the third time in four seasons, while Little Rock makes its first trip to the postseason since 2014.

Sun Belt teams have combined for seven NIVC appearances – Appalachian State (2018), Little Rock (2018), Arkansas State (1991, 1993, 2017, 2018) and Texas State (2017). The NIVC was originally played from 1989-95 and reestablished in 2017.
