• This week in Sun Belt Conference men's soccer has seven matches on the schedule, highlighted by two key league matchups.
• This week's
NCAA Division I RPI listed five Sun Belt teams in the top 110 – Central Arkansas (38th), Appalachian State (54th), Coastal Carolina (86th), Georgia Southern (95th) and Georgia State (109th).
• Central Arkansas (7-5-1, 2-1 Sun Belt) continues to be led by senior forward Niklas Brodacki, the active NCAA Division I leader in career points (98) and goals (46). He has seven goals and one assist in the Bears' first season in the Sun Belt. Brodacki was listed 84th on the
TopDrawerSoccer.com Midseason Top 100 list. He ranks tied for eighth nationally in game-winning goals (4).
• Howard (4-8-1, 1-1) enters the week on a two-match winning streak for the first time since winning back-to-back contests on Oct. 14 and 18, 2014. The Bison have been a second-half team as of late, scoring a goal in the 57th minute in the win over George Washington on Oct. 15 and netting two scores in the final five minutes in the win over Georgia State on Oct. 19.
• Coastal Carolina (5-6-2, 1-1) broke out of its offensive slump with its first goals in six matches in its 4-2 win at Appalachian State (9-3-1, 2-1) on Oct. 19. The four goals were a season-high.
• Appalachian State has surpassed its win total from last season and has not lost at home since its season opener (Aug. 30) against St. John's. The Mountaineers face another tough task this week at No. 19 Penn State under the Friday night lights in State College, Pa.
• Georgia State junior forward Aris Briggs remains one of the top offensive threats in the Sun Belt this season, leading the league in points (19), points per game (1.46), goals (9) and goals per game (0.69).
• Georgia Southern sophomore forward Adam Davie is the only player in the conference ranked in the top three in goals (t2nd, 7) and assists (t2nd, 4).
• Georgia State senior defender Kyle Clinton was
one of 30 men's soccer student-athletes on the initial list for the 2019 Senior CLASS Award®. The initial list will be narrowed to 10 finalists midway through the regular season, and those 10 names will be placed on the official ballot. Ballots will be distributed through a nationwide voting system to media, coaches and fans, who will select one male candidate. The Senior CLASS Award winner will be announced during the 2019 NCAA Men’s College Cup® in December.
• The 2019 Sun Belt Men's Soccer Championship, hosted by Appalachian State, is set for Nov. 13-17 at the Ted Mackorell Soccer Complex in Boone, N.C.
OFFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Tsiki Ntsabeleng, Coastal Carolina (Sr., F, Johannesburg, South Africa)
Coastal Carolina senior forward Tsiki Ntsabeleng led the Chanticleers to a win and a tie, including an upset of league-leading Appalachian State on the road. In the 4-2 win over the Mountaineers, Ntsabeleng assisted on the game's first goal in the fifth minute and hit the back of the net twice just over 12+-minute span later in the opening half to put Coastal Carolina in the driver's seat for its first Sun Belt win of the season.
DEFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Alberto Ciroi, Coastal Carolina (Sr., GK, Udine, Italy)
Coastal Carolina senior goalkeeper Alberto Ciroi played all 180 minutes in the Chanticleers' two matches, picking up his third shutout of the season in the tie with UNC Wilmington. Ciroi had three saves in that match and grabbed a pair of saves in the win at Appalachian State to close the week with a .714 save percentage.
