Match 5 - No. 1 Texas State 3, No. 4 Troy 0
No. 1 Texas State took control from the onset and made quick work of No. 4 Troy in its 3-0 (25-14, 25-14, 25-18) victory, the first sweep of this year's championship.
Texas State moves on to its third-straight Sun Belt Tournament title match. The Bobcats are seeking a third Sun Belt Tournament trophy (2013, 2018) in their seventh season in the conference.
Junior middle blocker Tyeranee Scott headlined Texas State's dominating performance with a career-best and three-set tournament-record 10 blocks to go along with five kills. Senior outside hitter Cheyenne Huskey landed a match-high 13 kills on 25 swings with just three errors (.400) and sophomore outside hitter Janell Fitzgerald was behind her with 10 kills (.368). Sophomore setter Emily DeWalt flirted with a double-double, finishing with 31 assists and a career-high nine blocks.
As a team, the Bobcats logged a season-high 15 blocks and won the battle in kills (40-27), assists (37-26), aces (4-2) and digs (29-23).
Match 6 - No. 2 Coastal Carolina 3, No. 7 UTA 1
Coastal Carolina put away a pesky UTA squad in its 3-1 (26-24, 25-23, 23-25, 25-19) win to get back to the Sun Belt Championship final for the first time since winning back-to-back tournament titles in 2016 and 2017.
A pair of double-doubles led the way for the Chanticleers as sophomore outside hitter Anett Nemeth posted her ninth double-double (tournament-high 27 kills, 10 digs) and freshman setter Brigitta Petrenko contributed her 10th double-double (tournament-high 59 assists, match-high 14 digs).
The match was highly contested throughout as Coastal Carolina took a two-set lead. UTA fought back in the third set, going up 20-19 after a 4-0 run. The two squads battled down the stretch before the Mavericks took the set on back-to-back points.
The Chanticleers came back in the fourth with a couple mid-set of runs of their own to take a 21-15 led. Petrenko knocked down two of her kills over the final four points to send Coastal Carolina back to a rematch of the 2017 tournament final, which the Chanticleer won 3-1.
