Georgia Southern's Fisk, Collins Highlight Men's Golf Awards

NEW ORLEANS – In a vote of the men’s golf coaches, Georgia Southern's Steven Fisk was named the Sun Belt Men’s Golfer of the Year, Luka Naglic of Arkansas State was named the Sun Belt Freshman of the Year, Zack Taylor of Coastal Carolina was named Newcomer of the Year, and Georgia Southern coach Carter Collins was tabbed Sun Belt Men's Golf Coach of the Year. In addition, the 2019 All-Sun Belt Men’s Golf Team was announced by the conference office on Thursday.

Fisk, a senior from Stockbridge, Ga., won six tournaments this season, including his second Sun Belt Men's Golf Championship. He is just the second player in league history to win the conference championship twice. Fisk leads the league in scoring average (68.89) and finished in the top-10 seven times this season. He is a Haskins Award Watch List Finalist and was named Sun Belt Men's Golfer of the Week three times this year. He passed Jodie Mudd for the school record in career victories with nine in his four years in Statesboro.

Fisk and his teammates will be competing in the NCAA Men's Golf Championship at the Blessings Course in Fayetteville, Ark., May 24-28.

A-State's Naglic was the runner-up at the Sun Belt Men's Golf Championship, helping lead A-State to the match play championship. Naglic shot a career-best 202 at the tournament, which also tied the tournament's best score all-time. His 72.06 scoring average ranked third on the team and seventh in the Sun Belt. He has four top-5 finishes this year.

CCU's Taylor played in 12 tournaments this year, including the NCAA Myrtle Beach Regional where he finished 20th. He led the Chanticleers with a 71.33 average while recording a team-high 23 rounds of par or better. He had five top-five finishes and eight top-20 finishes this season.

The Eagles took fourth place at the NCAA Stanford Golf Regional with a -6 three-day total to advance as the No. 10 seed in the regional. The Eagles shot a school record 21-under-par 263 as a team in the final round of stroke play at the Sun Belt Men's Golf Championship and qualified for match play for the third consecutive season.
