ATLANTA – No. 2-seed Georgia State scored the equalizing goal in the 87th minute to tie No. 3-seed Central Arkansas 1-1 before advancing 4-2 on penalty kicks on Friday night at Center Parc Stadium.
Georgia State (9-2-1) trailed for most of the evening before freshman Alex Henderson scored his first career goal in the 87th minute on an assist from Sun Belt Conference Player of the Year George Proctor.
Central Arkansas (3-5-1) got on the board in the seventh minute as Alberto Suarez scored his third goal of the season on an assist from Soren Jensen.
Both teams had plenty of chances in both regulation and overtime with the Panthers outshooting the Bears 11-8 as both goalkeepers recorded four saves.
With Georgia State leading 3-2 in penalty kicks, Central Arkansas hit the left crossbar for a miss. After Proctor made the fourth attempt, goalkeeper Gunther Rankenburg notched a save on Jenson to send the Panthers to Sunday's Sun Belt Championship finale.
