UTA's Cox & Texas State's Wong Earn Sun Belt Weekly Honors

NEW ORLEANS – After carding season-low rounds and Top 10 finishes, UTA’s Cox and Texas State’s Wong earn the final Sun Belt Golfer of the Week nods of the 2021 campaign. 
 
Men’s Golfer of the Week
Kyle Cox, UTA
(Jr. – Carrollton, Texas) 
 
Junior Kyle Cox posted three-straight rounds of under-par golf at the Bearkat Invitational to become UTA’s first individual medalist since 2013. The Carrollton, Texas, product shot 6-under par 210 (70-72-69—210) for the tournament, including a season-low 3-under par 69 in the final round. Three eagles headlined Cox’s final round—propelling him to the individual title over an 83-golfer field and helping the Mavericks to their first team title since September of 2019. 
 
Women’s Golfer of the Week
Geraldine Wong, Texas State
(Sr. – Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia)
 
Senior Geraldine Wong carded a 6-under par 210 (68-72-70—210)—the lowest 54-hole score of her career—to place sixth in the 39-golfer field at the Lone Star Invitational. Wong’s first round 4-under par 68 was a season-low personally and for the Bobcat program. The Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, native shot even-par-or-better in all three rounds of a tournament for the first time in her Texas State career en route to her fourth career Top 10 finish. Wong is the third different Texas State golfer to earn Sun Belt Women’s Golfer of the Week honors.
