CHAMPIONSHIP CENTRAL
EL DORADO, Ark. – The 12 Sun Belt men’s golf programs will head to the Mystic Creek Golf Club in El Dorado, Ark., for the 2021 Sun Belt Men’s Golf Championship from Sunday, April 25, to Wednesday, April 28.
The tournament commences on Sunday, April 25, with 54 holes of stroke play over three days on the par-72, 7,181-yard course. The teams will tee off from split tees, beginning at 8:30 a.m. CT, with six teams teeing off on No. 1 and six teams starting at No. 10.
The top four teams from the 54-hole stroke play event will advance to match play on Wednesday, April 28. The semifinal matches will tee off beginning at 8:30 a.m. CT—with the No. 4-seed and the No. 1-seed on No. 1 and the No. 3-seed and the No. 2-seed on No. 10. The championship match will tee off from No. 1 following the conclusion of the semifinal matches.
Arkansas State is the event’s reigning champion, having won the 2019 Sun Belt Men’s Golf Championship with a 4-1 victory over No. 4-seeded ULM in the championship match. The Red Wolves were the No. 3-seed entering match play, but upset No. 2-seeded Coastal Carolina, 3-2, to advance to the championship final.
The Red Wolves (286.00) and the Georgia Southern Eagles (287.67) carry the top two team scoring averages in the conference into this year’s championship event.
Individually, Arkansas State senior Julien Sale paces all Sun Belt golfers with a 70.56 scoring average. The Saint-Louis, Reunion Island, native was the individual medalist at the Bubba Barnett Intercollegiate this season and was part of the Red Wolves championship squad in 2019.
Coastal Carolina senior Zack Taylor, who tied for third at the 2019 Sun Belt Men’s Golf Championship, ranks second in the conference with a 71.54 scoring average. 2019 Sun Belt individual runner-up, Arkansas State sophomore Luka Naglic, also returns to the championship field.
South Alabama paces all current Sun Belt men’s golf programs with 10 all-time team championships, while Louisiana (3), Troy (2), Little Rock (2), Arkansas State (1), Coastal Carolina (1), Georgia Southern (1) and Georgia State (1) also claim Sun Belt titles.
All three rounds of stroke play, along with Wednesday’s semifinal and championship matches, will be broadcast live on ESPN+ and live scored via Golfstat.
