FIU’s Johnathan Cyprien Kicks off Second Round with First Pick to the Jacksonville Jaguars

NEW YORK CITY - Former FIU safety Johnathan Cyprien became the Panthers highest drafted football player Thursday night as he was selected by the Jacksonville Jaguars with the first pick, 33rd overall, in the second round.

The 2013 NFL Draft is being held at Radio City Music Hall in New York City. The first round took place Thursday evening with the second and third rounds on Friday, April 26. Rounds 4-7 will be held Sat., April 27. Both ESPN and the NFL Network will have all three days of the Draft live.

Former FIU All-American T.Y. Hilton was previously FIU’s highest NFL Draft pick, with his third round (92nd overall) selection in the 2012 Draft.

Cyprien is also the first safety from a Sun Belt Conference school drafted since Arkansas State’s Tyrell Johnson in 2008 (2nd round, 42nd overall selection) and is the highest SBC player drafted since Troy’s Leodis McKelvin in 2008 to the Buffalo Bills with the 11th pick in the first round.
