UT Arlington Upends Memphis

UT Arlington knocks off Memphis 68-64

MEMPHIS, Tenn. (AP) Kevin Hervey had 22 points and 11 rebounds as UT Arlington knocked off Memphis 68-64 on Monday night for its second upset victory in three days.

The Mavericks (3-1) beat Ohio State 73-68 on the road on Friday night.

Jalen Jones was 7 of 13 from the floor for 15 points and Erick Neal added 13 as the Mavericks rolled to a 31-21 lead at the break.

Memphis charged back to take a 50-44 lead following Avery Woodson's 3-point jumper midway in the second half. The Mavericks retook the lead 58-55 with 3:09 left following Nathan Hawkins' layup and Neal's three free throws.

Hervey hit two straight jump shots and slammed home a dunk with 18 seconds left to seal the win.

Ricky Tarrant Jr. had 21 points for Memphis (2-2).

The Mavericks made just 26 of 78 shots from the floor, but the Tigers only got 16 of 54 to fall.

Hot-shooting Belmont beats South Alabama 98-85

KENNESAW, Ga. (AP) Evan Bradds scored a career-high 30 points on 14-of-15 shooting and Belmont made 69 percent of its shots in the second half for a 98-85 victory over South Alabama on Monday in the Legends Classic.

Two free throws by Amanze Egekeze gave Belmont a 78-68 lead - the first double-digit advantage for either team - with 7:18 left. South Alabama scored the next five points, but Belmont answered with a 12-0 run, with six straight points from Bradds, to extend its lead to 90-73.

Craig Bradshaw added 17 points and Taylor Barnette had 15 for Belmont (3-2).

Belmont trailed 47-46 at halftime but outscored South Alabama 52-38 in the second half. The Bruins made 18 of 26 shots after halftime.

Ken Williams led South Alabama (1-3) with 19 points. Georgi Boyanov and Taishaun Johnson had 16 apiece.

Samford holds off Troy 83-79

DENTON, Texas (AP) Darius Jones-Gibson scored 16 points, Christen Cunningham and Marcus Johnson each scored 15, and Samford beat Troy 83-79 on Monday at the Mean Green Showcase.

Matt Rose scored a career-high 13 points and Wyatt Walker had nine points with 12 rebounds, both career highs, for the Bulldogs (2-2), who made 10 of 23 3-pointers.

Trailing 44-35 at halftime, the Trojans tied it at 51 on a layup by Daniel Peace and the lead traded hands until a minute left, when Troy's Jordon Varnado tied it at 79 with a jumper.

Jones-Gibson put Samford up 82-79 with a 3-pointer with 10 seconds to go and Wyatt Walker iced it with a free throw. Troy had its chances, but Wesley Person missed a potential game-tying 3 with 4 seconds left.

Jeremy Hollimon led the Trojans (3-1) with a career-high 23 points, Varnado scored 19 with a career-high five assists, and Person added 14 points.
