Georgia State Tops Southern Miss, 66-46

Georgia State cruises to 66-46 victory Southern Mississippi

HATTIESBURG, Miss. (AP) Jeremy Hollowell scored 17 points and Georgia State used a big first half and cruised to a 66-46 victory over Southern Mississippi on Saturday night.

Georgia State (6-2) scored the first 11 points, jumped out to a 23-3 lead midway through the first half, and led 35-14 at the break. Hollowell scored nine points in the first half.

Southern Miss (2-7) missed its first eight field goal attempts before Khari Price made a layup with 7:46 to play in the first half.

Isaiah Williams and Markus Crider scored 12 apiece for the Panthers.

Price scored 20 points and had 10 rebounds to lead Southern Miss (2-7), which scored a season-low 46 points.

Eddie Davis III's jumper pulled the Golden Eagles to 51-38 with 5:20 to play. Crider and Kevin Ware scored four points apiece and the Panthers led 59-39 with three minutes left.

Winthrop ends 2-game skid by beating Georgia Southern 88-81

STATESBORO, Ga. (AP) Keon Johnson hit six 3-pointers and scored 30 points to lead Winthrop past Georgia Southern 88-81 on Saturday.

Johnson has scored 20-plus points in three straight games - and in five of his last seven.

Jimmy Gavin added 20 points and Xavier Cooks had 13 points with 11 rebounds for Winthrop (7-3), which snapped a two-game losing streak.

Clinging to a 56-54 lead with a little more than 12 minutes remaining, Johnson scored 10 straight Winthrop points - on two 3-pointers, a layup and two free throws - to make it 66-59 with 8:37 to play.

Then with 2:32 left, Gavin made layups on two straight drives for a 13-point lead. Georgia Southern scored the next seven points, but Gavin, Josh Davenport and Johnson combined to make 6 of 6 free throws in the final 46 seconds.

Tookie Brown led the Eagles (3-6) with 25 points.

Charlotte handles Appalachian State 82-66

BOONE, N.C. (AP) Braxton Ogbueze scored 25 points with a career-high seven 3-pointers, and Charlotte beat Appalachian State 82-66 on Saturday, handing the Mountaineers their fifth straight loss.

Benas Griciunas and Anthony Vanhook scored 14 points apiece, Ridell Camidge added 10, and Jon Davis had a career-high seven assists for the 49ers (2-8), who shot 11 of 18 (61 percent) from long distance.

Ogbueze scored 20 points in the first half, including 6 of 6 3-pointers, and Charlotte led 40-33 at halftime.

Camidge and Griciunas each hit two 3-pointers and Charlotte led 54-45 early in the second half. Jake Babic's 3 pulled the Mountaineers within 56-50, but Charlotte replied with a 9-0 run for 65-50 lead and continued to pull away.

The 49ers outrebounded the Mountaineers 43-25 and its bench outscored Appalachian State's 39-24.

Frank Eaves scored 24 with four 3-pointers for the Mountaineers (2-8).
