Texas State Runs Away in Rivalry Win vs. UTSA

Texas State runs away from UTSA Roadrunners 76-53

SAN MARCOS, Texas (AP) Emani Gant and Kavin Gilder-Tilbury combined for 31 points as Texas State defeated Interstate 35 rival UTSA 76-53 on Wednesday night.

Gant led the scoring with 16 points on 6-for-12 shooting with three steals, Gilder-Tilbury scored 15 points and dished a career-high six assists.

Cameron Naylor added 14 points for the Bobcats (3-1) and Anthony Roberson chipped in 10. Ethan Montalvo tied the school record with eight steals.

Texas State closed the first half on a 10-0 run over the final 4:30, going into the break ahead 39-21. UTSA (1-7) only got a single, missed, shot off in that span, while making five turnovers. It was more of the same after intermission as Texas State opened with an 8-0 run, building the lead to 47-21 in 90 seconds.

The Roadrunners made 26 turnovers while Texas State had 14 steals and blocked five shots.

Ryan Bowie led UTSA with 11 points and 11 rebounds.

Savannah St. evens record, holds off Georgia Southern, 76-67

SAVANNAH, Ga. (AP) Casey Wells' 3-pointer with 25 seconds left sealed Savannah State's 76-67 win over Georgia Southern Wednesday night.

Mike Hughes hit a late 3-pointer and Tookie Brown hit a pair of free throws with 51 seconds left to pull Georgia Southern within two, 69-67. But Wells answered from deep, Javaris Jenkins hit a pair of free throws and Khalen Pinkett stole the ball from Ike Smith and got to the rim for a layup with 12 seconds left to put the game away.

Kamil Williams hit a 3-pointer with 35 seconds left in the first half to send Savannah State into halftime with a 37-32 lead.

Chris Martin scored 18 points and Troyce Manassa added another 16 to lead the Tigers (4-4), who shot 53.2 percent from the field (25 of 47).

Smith and Brown both scored 13 points to lead Georgia Southern (3-4).
