Troy Softball Defeats Florida A&M, 2-0
TALLAHASSEE, Florida – The Troy softball team defeated Florida A&M, 2-0, for its third shutout victory of the season on Tuesday at the Lady Rattler Softball Complex.
Ashley Rainey (10-3) pitched a complete game shutout and only allowed four hits and one walk.
Troy (26-19) scored its first run of the game in the third inning as Kate Benton got the inning started with a lead off walked and advanced in scoring position as she swiped second base. Benton advanced to third on a fly out to right field by Hannah Day and scored as Carli Kayler reached base on a throwing error by the Rattler shortstop.
The Trojans added another run in the fifth inning to take a 2-0 lead as Day, who went 1-for-4 with an RBI, singled to third base and scored Benton, who scored both runs of the game.
Carli Kayler went 2-for-4 with an RBI. Michelle Phelps had the only extra base hit, a double, for Troy in the first inning. Neely went 1-for-2 with a single and drew a walk.
The Trojans will be back in action on Saturday as they travel to Statesboro, Ga., for a Sun Belt series with Georgia Southern.
