Georgia State Falls to No. 10 Florida State in Home Finale

ATLANTA – The Panthers took an early lead and tried to rally late but it was not enough as Georgia State lost to No. 10/11 Florida State 6-3 Monday afternoon in the team’s 2015 home finale.

Taylor Anderson reaches safely in all four of her at-bats, drawing three walks and hitting a RBI single. Current Sun Belt Player of the Week Lauren Coleman drove in a run with a single while Kensey Caldwell and Brenna Skalski also scored for the Panthers.

Georgia State then jumped out to a 1-0 lead after one when Anderson scored on Coleman’s RBI single.

After neither team scored in the second or third inning, the Seminoles responded to take a 2-1 lead in the fourth on Jessica Warren’s two-run homer to right. FSU then extended its lead to 5-1 thanks to three runs in the top of the fifth.

Florida State added one run in the seventh to go up 6-1. Georgia State then scored two and sent the tying run to the plate in the bottom of the frame but the rally fell short. After Megan Litumbe walked, pinch runner Skalski advanced on a ground out and single by Caldwell before scoring on a passed ball.

Caldwell also advanced on the passed ball and later scored on Anderson’s RBI single. Another passed ball put two in scoring positon with the tying run at the plate but a ground out ended the game and gave Florida State the 6-3 win.

Georgia State’s final three games of the regular season are on the road against rival Georgia Southern. The Panthers and Eagles will play a single game on Friday, May 1 at 6 p.m. before the series concludes with a doubleheader on Saturday, May 2 beginning at 1 p.m.
