Cajuns Jump out Early on Trojans, Hang on for 12-8 Victory
TROY, Ala. – The UL Lafayette Ragin’ Cajuns defeated tournament host and second-seed Troy, 12-8, at Riddle-Pace Field in Troy, Ala in the second of two elimination games on Thursday.

The Cajuns (35-21) plated 10 runs in the first four innings, including six in the top of the second. With the win the Cajuns move onto Friday’s elimination game scheduled for 3 p.m. CT. The Cajuns will face the loser of the Texas State/UT Arlington game being played at 7:30 p.m. CT today.

Troy’s season came to a close in what was head coach Bobby Pierce’s final game at the helm of the Trojan program. He caps his career with a Troy program best 450 wins.

After falling behind 5-1 in the first inning the Cajuns turned to senior reliever Greg Milhorn who tossed 4 2/3 innings allowing just one run and one hit as the Cajuns built a 12-6 lead. He faced 19 batters, struck out six and surrendered just . Milhorn earned the win to improve to 3-1 on the year while Troy junior Grant Bennett (9-4) came away with the loss.

The Trojans came out firing in the bottom of the first inning. The Trojans hit two home runs, including junior Logan Hill’s three-run home run. Senior Nick Masonia followed Hill's homer just two batters later as he connected on a two-run home run of his own.

Troy’s good fortune would be short-lived as the Ragin’ Cajuns fired right back sending six runners across the plate in the top of the second inning. Cajuns senior Greg Davis hit a two-run home run of his own scoring senior Evan Powell who walked in the inning. Junior Blake Trahan was walked by Bennett and scored on a double off of the center field wall by junior Brenn Conrad. Following a walk to junior Kyle Clement, the Cajuns took the lead for good on a three-run shot by junior Stefan Trosclair, his 15th of the season.

The Cajuns added three more insurance runs in the top of the fourth and then two more in the top of the sixth. Trahan led off the fourth with a bunt single and advanced to second on a sacrifice. He later scored on a double by Clement. Clement later scored on a double, this time by Trosclair, who knocked in his fourth RBI of the day. Trosclair stole third and then scored on a single by senior Tyler Girouard.

The Cajuns tacked on two more runs in the sixth inning as Conrad and Trosclair scored off of two doubles. Conrad doubled to lead-off the inning and Clement singled him in. Trosclair reached on a fielder's choice and then stole second. Girouard doubled to left center scoring Trosclair.

The Trojans threatened in the bottom half of the sixth as they loaded the bases in the inning with two outs but were unable to capitalize on the big inning and only came away with one run. Junior Cameron Sanders singled for the Trojans scoring senior Clay Holcomb who was hit by a pitch to open the bottom half of the inning.

Troy added a final two runs in the eighth but the Cajuns turned it over to junior Will Bacon who tossed the final one and a third innings to earn his second save of the season.

UL-L’s Trosclair finished the game with two hits, one home run and four RBI. Clement added three hits and two RBI while Girouard also added two hits and two RBI.
