Men's Soccer Falls at Radford
Radford, Va. - Coastal Carolina's soccer team lost a home game due to Hurricane Irma, and then lost the game as Radford hung on to defeat the Chanticleers 2-1.
The match was scheduled to be played in Conway, but with the threat of Hurricane Irma, the match was moved to Radford where the Highlanders were able to take advantage of their home field in the victory.
The home standing Highlanders out shot CCU 7-0 in the opening 45 minutes, with two of those shots finding the back of the net. Radford's Rad Daehlie scored in the 33rd minute and Kieran Roberts scored in the 44th minute.
CCU came out with a renewed vigor in the second half out shooting Radford 10-6, but could only find the net on a Miguel Guitterez corner kick that Henrik Mueller headed in to cut the lead in half during the 57th minute. That would be the Chants lone score as CCU had plenty of chances to score again, but time and time again missed the net and/or turned the ball over.
Radford finished the game with 13 shots compared to 10 for CCU. The Chants goalie Braulio Linares-Ortiz finished with five saves.
CCU moves to 2-3 on the season while Radford is now 2-2.
The Chanticleers will open Sun Belt Conference play Saturday, Sept. 16 when they play at Georgia Southern. The match is scheduled to begin at 7 p.m.
