NEW ORLEANS - Second-seeded Texas State (23-8) is heading to the Sun Belt tournament final for the first time in program history after a 62-56 win over sixth-seeded Louisiana.
The backcourt duo of Taeler Deer and Toshua Leavitt combined for 41 of the Bobcats' 62 points. Deer led Texas State with 21 on 8-of-14 shooting while Leavitt totaled 20 points, 15 of which came on three-pointers. Leavitt has now upped her Sun Belt record to 133 all-time and ranks third in the NCAA this season.
Texas State will face top-seeded Little Rock on Sunday at 6 p.m. (CT) on ESPN3. The winner will earn the league's automatic bid to the NCAA tournament. This will be the first meeting between the top two seeds since 2015.
The Bobcats shot just 33.3 percent from the field and 34.6 percent from beyond the arc but forced 16 Ragin' Cajun turnovers that led to 16 points for Texas State. The Bobcats made all 13 of their free throw attempts.
The loss drops the Cajuns to 17-16 on the season.
Skyler Goodwin was the only Ragin' Cajun in double figures with 10 points. Jomyra Mathis scored eight points off the bench as the Cajuns bench outscored Texas State's bench, 22-2.
