MOBILE, Ala. – Antoinette Lewis notched her 10th double-double on the season with 20 points and 12 rebounds as No. 7 South Alabama defeated No. 10 Louisiana, 73-61, in the first round of the 2019 Sun Belt Women’s Basketball Championship, presented by First Bank and Trust.
Alexis Sykes added 15 points on five three-pointers and Kennedi Centers added another double-double (12 points, 11 rebounds) for the Jags (21-9) who advance to Wednesday’s second round to face sixth-seeded Texas State.
USA outrebounded the Ragin’ Cajuns, 48-30, on the night and at one point led by 34 points. The Jaguars shot 48.3% from the field and held the Cajuns to 38.5% from the floor and 21.4% from beyond the arc.
The Jaguars led for all but 47 seconds of the game and had a 41-14 lead at the half.
Ty’reona Doucet led the way for the Cajuns (7-23) with 15 points on 7-of-10 shooting. Andrea Cournoyer added 10 points for Louisiana.
