NEW ORLEANS – Marshall meets Illinois State in the WNIT championship on Saturday at 2 p.m. CT.
This will be the Herd’s first-ever trip to the WNIT Championship.
Marshall earned a bye into the second round of the tournament, meeting UMBC to start its postseason run. Timaya Lewis-Eutsey led the Herd with a game-high 21 points on 8-of-14 shooting, while adding six assists, three blocks, and two steals.
Marshall's defense played a major role throughout the game, holding UMBC to 36.8% shooting and piling up 11 blocks as a team. The Herd secured a 66–53 win.
The Herd then went on to defeat Youngstown State 72–46, earning its 25th win of the season—the second-most wins in a single season in program history. Leyocha Marigney had a standout performance, finishing with a career-high 14 points while grabbing seven rebounds and adding five blocks in a physical game between both teams.
In the round of eight, Marshall earned a comeback win over Army, shutting the Black Knights out in the fourth quarter to seal an 82–65 victory. Lewis-Eutsey again led the Herd with 23 points on 10-of-16 shooting.
With the win, head coach Juli Fulks matched an all-time program record with 26 wins in a season, and Marshall earned a spot in the Fab 4, facing conference opponent Arkansas State.
In a battle between two Sun Belt Conference teams, Lewis-Eutsey finished with 31 points, shooting 10-of-18 from the floor and knocking down 7-of-8 free throws for her seventh 30-point game of the season. She is one of only eight players in NCAA women’s basketball with seven 30-point games this season.
With the win, Marshall set a single-season record with 27 victories and advanced to Saturday's WNIT championship against Illinois State.
A win would mark the first postseason title for a Sun Belt team since App State won the WBI in 2019.
