2019 NCAA Division I Collegiate Baseball Freshmen All-America Teams

TUCSON, Ariz. – University of South Alabama outfielder Ethan Wilson was named 2019 NCAA Division I National Co-Freshmen Player of The Year by Collegiate Baseball, powered by Diamond, as announced by the organization on Wednesday.

Last Thursday, Wilson was named Third-Team All-America by Collegiate Baseball.

Wilson is the first Jaguar to earn All-America honors since Travis Swaggerty (Second-Team ABCA) and Jared Barnes (Third-Team D1Baseball.com) each earned the distinction in 2017. He becomes South Alabama's 30th All-American with his selection by Collegiate Baseball, and is the first Jaguar to earn All-America honors from Collegiate Baseball since right-handed pitcher Kevin Hill was named a First-Team All-American by the organization in 2016. Wilson was the lone Sun Belt Conference student-athlete to be named a 2019 All-American by Collegiate Baseball.

Wilson was voted the 2019 Sun Belt Conference Player of the Year and Freshman of the Year, and was also a First-Team All-Sun Belt selection in the outfield, after finishing the season ranked second in the league in slugging percentage (.686) and total bases (151), tied for second in home runs (17), tied for third in runs scored (59), sixth in batting average (.345) and on-base percentage (.453), tied for eighth in hits (76), ninth in RBIs (51) and tied for ninth in doubles (16).

He broke the program's freshman home run record this season with 17 home runs, which are the most by a Jaguar since Jeff Cunningham's single-season record of 22 in 2007.

Joining Wilson on the Freshman All-America team were Appalachian State's Luke Drumheller, Georgia Southern's Noah Ledford and Troy's Luke Cerny.

Drumheller, a second baseman from Charlotte, N.C., led App with a .339 batting average, hitting two home runs, 15 doubles and 37 RBI.

Ledford hit .291 for the Eagles who fell to Coastal Carolina in the Sun Belt Championship game last week. He had 11 home runs, 10 doubles and 44 RBI. His .291 average was fourth on the team which averaged .280 for the year.

Cerny finished his rookie campaign with a .267/.336/.495 slash line with 12 doubles, four triples, nine home runs and 42 RBIs. His home run total was the most by a Troy freshman since 1997. The native of Lawrenceville, Ga., started 54 games for the Trojans and did not commit an error all season long while adding five outfield assists.
