App State's Thomas Named To Walter Camp Award Watch List

NEW ORLEANS – Appalachian State's Zac Thomas is one of 40 players on the watch list for the Walter Camp Award, which is presented annually to the nation's most outstanding player.

Earlier this month, he was named to the watch list for the Maxwell and Davey O'Brien Awards.

Thomas' QBR of 79.8 in 2018 ranks ninth nationally among returning FBS quarterbacks. The Sun Belt's reigning Offensive Player of the Year, he completed his first season as an App State starter with 2,039 passing yards, 504 rushing yards and a combined 31 touchdowns (21 through the air).

Thomas recently served as a counselor at the prestigious Manning Passing Academy, where he placed second in the passing competition.

The watch list will be narrowed to 10 semi-finalists in mid-November. The 2019 Walter Camp Player of the Year recipient, which is voted on by the 130 NCAA Bowl Subdivision head coaches and sports information directors, will be announced live on ESPN on Thursday, December 12. The winner will then receive his trophy at the Foundation’s 53rd annual national awards banquet on January 18, 2020 in New Haven, Conn.
