NEW ORLEANS – The Sun Belt Conference announced its softball weekly honors on Tuesday. South Alabama infielder Belle Wolfendon tabbed the Player of the Week honor, while Troy sophomore Leanna Johnson was named Pitcher of the Week.
 
Softball Player of the Week

Belle Wolfendon, South Alabama

Jaguar infielder Belle Wolfenden picked up the league’s first weekly honor after recording a .556 hitting clip at the 14^th Annual Red and Black Showcase hosted by Georgia. She reached base in 8-of-12 plate appearances, drawing three walks while also adding a double and dinger to the ledger to bring in a team-high five RBIs. After recording a hit in the opener against No. 14 Georgia, Wolfenden reached on all five of her plate appearances as the Jaguars upset the Bulldogs, 9-8. She was 2-for-2 at the plate with both of her hits going for extra bases. She also walked three times, scored a pair of runs and drove in four. Her three-run home run in the top of the seventh provided just enough insurance for the Jags to hold on for the one-run victory. Defensively, Wolfenden made a critical stop in the sixth-inning to stall the Bulldogs’ momentum after they hit a two-run homer, and preserve the 5-4 sixth-inning Jag lead. On Saturday, Wolfenden posted her second multi-hit outing and drove in her team-leading fifth RBI against Virginia as she tied the game 3-3 with an RBI single to center in the fifth inning.
 
Softball Pitcher of the Week

Leanna Johnson, Troy
(#10, So, P – Brantley, Ala.)

Sophomore Leanna Johnson dominated in the circle during the 2021 opening weekend securing a 2-0 record with victories over in-state foe Ole Miss and Belmont. Johnson retired 11 Rebels en route to her 13th career double-digit strikeout performance. On Saturday, the sophomore picked up her second win of the season entering the matchup against Belmont in relief in the top of the fifth. Johnson retired nine of the final 10 batters of the game to secure Troy's third win of the weekend. During the stretch, Johnson pinned opposing hitters to a 0.70 batting average.
