App State’s Brown & South Alabama’s Prinsloo Earn Sun Belt Men’s Track & Field Athlete of the Week Distinctions

NEW ORLEANS – App State’s Ryan Brown and South Alabama’s Francois Prinsloo each turned in conference leading marks and have been selected as Sun Belt Conference Men’s Track and Field Athletes of the Week.

Mountaineers’ senior Ryan Brown broke the longstanding App State program record in the men’s 3,000-meter steeplechase on April 8 at the Duke Invitational in Durham, N.C. Brown stopped the clock at 8:51.28 to finish fourth overall and surpass the previous App State school record of 8:51.40, set in 1996 by Chris Huffstickler. The Raleigh, N.C., native leads the Sun Belt Conference in the men’s 3,000-meter steeplechase category as well as the 1,500-meters category and is currently 10th in the NCAA East Region in the men’s steeplechase.

Francois Prinsloo, South Alabama

Jaguars’ sophomore Francois Prinsloo recorded a 62.84m/206-2 throw and placed fifth among an elite field in the men’s discus at the Triton Invitational in San Diego. He currently leads the Sun Belt in the event and ranks fourth nationally.
