Old Dominion Claims 2023 Sun Belt Conference Women’s Tennis Tournament Title

PEACHTREE CITY, Ga. –
 No. 33 nationally ranked and top-seeded Old Dominion defeated second-seeded James Madison 4-0 to claim the 2023 Sun Belt Conference Women’s Tennis Tournament Championship in Peachtree City, Ga. In their first season in the league, the Monarchs claimed the Regular-Season Championship as well as their first tournament title. 
 
Old Dominion became the first program since South Alabama in 2019 to sweep both the men’s and women’s tennis tournament titles.
 
Old Dominion improved to 18-4 with the victory. James Madison finishes the season with a 15-8 overall record.
 
No. 40 nationally ranked and Sun Belt Conference First Team All-Conference doubles pair Sofia Johnson and Tatsiana Sasnouskaya started the doubles matches with a 6-2 win on court one. Shahar Biran and Alesya Yakubovich secured the doubles point with the win on court three 6-4.
 
Alexandra Viktorovich secured the first singles point for Old Dominion on court five winning 6-1, 6-1. No. 35 nationally ranked and Sun Belt Conference Player of the Year Tatsiana Sasnouskaya finished next on court one winning 6-1, 6-1.
 
First Team All-Conference member Sofia Johnson secured the Monarch victory on court two winning 6-3, 6-3. The Monarchs led on two of the three remaining courts and lost just two sets during their three matches at the championships.
 
Old Dominion earns the Sun Belt Conference’s automatic bid to the 2023 NCAA Women’s Tennis Tournament. The NCAA Tournament selection show is slated for Monday, May 1 at 6:00 p.m. ET on NCAA.com.
