Louisiana's Washington, Coastal Carolina's Lubin & Louisiana's Almendares Claim Sun Belt Football Weekly Honors

NEW ORLEANS – Following victories over divisional opposition, Louisiana’s Dre’lyn Washington, Coastal Carolina’s Clev Lubin and Louisiana’s Kenneth Almendares earned the Sun Belt football weekly honors.

Football Offensive Player of the Week
Dre’lyn Washington, Louisiana
(RS Jr., RB – Hemphill, Texas)

Ragin’ Cajuns redshirt junior running back Dre’lyn Washington established new career highs with 123 rushing yards, two touchdowns and 15.4 yards per carry in Louisiana’s 55-19 victory over Arkansas State to remain unbeaten in conference action. The Hemphill, Texas, native was part of a Louisiana rushing attack that registered a season-high 278 yards and six touchdowns on the ground. Washington capped a 64-yard drive with a 46-yard touchdown run up the middle in the second quarter, before adding a 14-yard touchdown scamper to conclude an 80-yard drive in the third quarter.

Football Defensive Player of the Week
Clev Lubin, Coastal Carolina
(RS So., DL – Suffern, N.Y.)

Chanticleers redshirt sophomore defensive lineman Clev Lubin accumulated 10 tackles, 4.5 tackles for loss and 3.0 sacks in Coastal Carolina’s 38-24 win over App State—its third-straight in the head-to-head series. The Suffern, N.Y., native also added a forced fumble on the four-yard line, which Coastal Carolina recovered and eventually converted into a touchdown. Two of Lubin’s sacks came on back-to-back plays in the fourth quarter, stalling a Mountaineers drive as they attempted to mount a comeback.

Football Special Teams Player of the Week
Kenneth Almendares, Louisiana
(RS Sr., K – Clute, Texas)

Ragin’ Cajuns redshirt senior kicker Kenneth Almendares became the program’s all-time scoring leader in Louisiana’s 55-19 win over Arkansas State to maintain its perch atop the Sun Belt West Division standings. The Clute, Texas, native scored 13 points on two field goals and seven extra points. Almendares became the fourth Sun Belt kicker to record 60 career field goals, while improving to 19-for-21 on the season (90.5 percent) and 60-for-71 for his career (84.5 percent). He tied Elijah McGuire’s school record of 318 points scored on a 44-yard field goal in the first quarter and set the record on an extra point following Washington’s 46-yard touchdown run.
