NEW ORLEANS – Troy junior forward Jackson Fields has been tabbed the first Sun Belt Conference Men’s Basketball Player of the Week after posting a pair of double-digit scoring efforts and leading the Trojans to a 2-0 record during the season’s first week of games.
Fields averaged 12.5 points and seven rebounds in 17.5 minutes per game while shooting 64 percent from the floor in wins over Toledo and New Orleans.
A Missouri City, Texas native, Fields shot 5-for-6 overall to finish with 10 points and four rebounds in an 84-74 season-opening home win over four-time reigning MAC regular-season champion Toledo as part of the MAC-SBC Challenge on Nov. 4.
Fields followed up that performance with a career-high 15 points and grabbed 10 rebounds to post the first double-double of his career in a 78-61 road win over New Orleans on Nov. 9. He shot 4-for-8 from the field and 7-for-8 at the free throw line while adding a pair of assists and a steal in the contest
Fields becomes the first Troy men’s basketball player to earn the Sun Belt’s top weekly honor since Jordon Varnado on Jan. 21, 2019.
