NEW ORLEANS – Old Dominion sophomore guard Robert Davis Jr. has been named Sun Belt Conference Men’s Basketball Player of the Week after posting a league-best scoring performance and leading the Monarchs to a conference road win.
Davis becomes the first Monarch to garner the league’s top weekly honor since Mekhi Long on Jan. 31, 2023.
Davis scored 20 of his career-high 32 points after halftime in Old Dominion’s 80-75 overtime road win at ULM in its Sun Belt opener. His 32 points are tied for the most in a game by a Sun Belt player this season and represent the most in a Sun Belt regular season game since a 32-point effort by former Georgia Southern standout Tyren Moore on March 1, 2024 against ODU.
Trailing 75-72 in overtime, Davis ignited an 8-0 scoring run to close out the game with a 3-pointer that tied the game at 75 with 1:09 remaining. The Detroit native made eight field goals in the contest, including seven treys at a 50-percent clip, and was 9-of-12 from the free throw line while adding two assists and a pair of steals.
Davis has scored in double-figures seven times and leads the Sun Belt with 40 3-pointers made this season at an average of 3.6 per game. He has made at least five treys on five different occasions this season.
