Texas State’s Tyrel Morgan Named Sun Belt Men’s Basketball Player of the Week

NEW ORLEANS – Texas State graduate forward Tyrel Morgan has been named Sun Belt Conference Men’s Basketball Player of the Week following his offensive performance in the team’s lone non-conference matchup last week.

Morgan becomes the Bobcats’ first recipient of the league’s top weekly honor since Jordan Mason accomplished the feat on Dec. 19, 2023.

An Atlanta native, Morgan led Texas State offensively by scoring 14 of his team-leading 22 points in the second half on 9-of-15 shooting while going 4-for-6 at the free throw line against UT Arlington on Dec. 29. It was his fourth consecutive game scoring at least 19 points and third contest with at least 20 points this season.

A Preseason All-Sun Belt Third Team selection, Morgan also grabbed eight rebounds and matched his career-high with four steals while also blocking one shot.
