NEW ORLEANS – For the second time this season, Arkansas State senior guard Caleb Fields has been named Sun Belt Conference Men’s Basketball Player of the Week after averaging a double-double while helping the Red Wolves to a pair of home wins.
Fields averaged a league-leading 24.5 points and 10.5 assists per game while shooting 19-for-31 (.613) from the field. He got the week started with 27 points on 12 of 18 shooting with eight assists in a 78-71 victory over Southern Miss on Wednesday. The Lewisburg, Tenn., native followed up that performance with 22 points and a career-high 13 assists in a 95-80 win over ULM on Saturday.
In Saturday’s contest, Fields eclipsed 600 assists for his career which ranks fourth in Sun Belt history. He is also one of just three NCAA Division I players to record at least 20 points and 10 assists in the same game twice this season.
Fields becomes the fourth Sun Belt player to earn the league’s weekly honor multiple times this season along with Kobe Julien at Louisiana and T.J. Bickerstaff and Terrence Edwards Jr. at James Madison.
