App State Men’s Basketball to Represent Sun Belt Conference in 2024 NIT

The App State men’s basketball team will be competing in the postseason after accepting an invitation to the 2024 National Invitation Tournament (NIT).
 
The Mountaineers will challenge top-seeded Wake Forest (20-13) in the tournament’s first round on Wednesday, March 20. Tipoff is scheduled for 7 p.m. (CT) at LVJM Coliseum in Winston-Salem, N.C., and the game will be broadcast on ESPN+.
 
The Sun Belt Conference has now had a team invited to the NIT in three consecutive seasons, while App State will make its second appearance in the tournament in program history and first since 2007.
 
Led by fifth-year head coach and 2024 Sun Belt Conference Coach of the Year Dustin Kerns, App State compiled a 27-6 overall record and won the Sun Belt’s outright regular season championship with a 16-2 record in league contests.
 
The Mountaineers are led by a pair of All-Sun Belt Conference First Team selections, including graduate forward Donovan Gregory and junior forward Tre’Von Spillers. Sophomore forward Justin Abson was voted Defensive Player of the Year by the Sun Belt’s head coaches, while junior guard Terence Harcum was tabbed as an all-conference third team pick.
