NEW ORLEANS – James Madison learned it will be the No. 12 seed in the South Region of the 2024 NCAA Division I Men’s Basketball Championship, as announced during the NCAA’s selection show Sunday evening.
The Dukes will take on the South Region’s No. 5 seed, Wisconsin (22-13), on Friday, March 22 at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, N.Y. Tipoff is scheduled for 8:40 p.m. (CT) and the game will be televised nationally on CBS.
James Madison’s No. 12 seed marks the highest for a Sun Belt Conference team in the NCAA Tournament since Little Rock received the same seed in 2016.
James Madison will make its sixth all-time appearance in the NCAA Tournament, its first since 2013 and first as a member of the Sun Belt. The Dukes’ other previous bids to March Madness came in 1981, 1982, 1983 and 1994.
James Madison owns a 31-3 overall record this season and finished second in the Sun Belt’s regular season standings with a 15-3 mark in conference play. The Dukes won the 2024 Hercules Tires Sun Belt Conference Championship, defeating Marshall, Texas State and Arkansas State in consecutive days to secure the league’s automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament.
The Dukes are led by 2024 Sun Belt Conference Player of the Year and redshirt junior Terrence Edwards Jr., who leads the league with 17.4 points per game and ranks fourth in assists (3.5) and seventh in field goal percentage (.428). Graduate forward and 2024 Sun Belt Conference Newcomer of the Year T.J. Bickerstaff posted 11 double-doubles while averaging 13.4 points and 8.5 rebounds per contest while shooting over 62 percent from the floor. Redshirt senior guard Noah Freidel earned All-Sun Belt Third Team honors and was named Most Outstanding Player of the 2024 Hercules Tires Sun Belt Men’s Basketball Championship.
James Madison will enter the NCAA Tournament riding the nation’s longest winning streak at 13 straight.
