ROME, Ga. – App State, Coastal Carolina, Georgia Southern and Georgia State each won their matches in the second round of the 2024 Sun Belt Conference Women’s Tennis Championship at the Rome Tennis Center on Thursday.
No. 5 seed Coastal Carolina won 4-0 over No. 13 seed Southern Miss to open the day. No. 9 seed Georgia State won a 4-3 battle over No. 8 seed Texas State in the second match of the morning. No. 6 seed Georgia Southern defeated No. 11 seed Louisiana 4-1 in the first match of the afternoon. No. 7 App State outlasted No. 10 seed James Madison 4-3 in the final match of the day.
The four winners advance to the Quarterfinals on Friday where they will match up with the top four seeds. All four quarterfinal matches will be broadcast live on ESPN+.
Match 3: (5) Coastal Carolina 4, (13) Southern Miss 0

Coastal Carolina and Southern Miss started the match by splitting the first two doubles courts. Tied 6-6 on court one, the Golden Eagles led 6-3 in the tiebreak set. However, the pairing of Anna Babayan and Jesse Hollins rallied five consecutive points to give the Chanticleers the early 1-0 advantage.
Southern Miss finishes the season 6-14 after advancing out of the first round with a win.
Coastal Carolina (14-8) won a trio of straight set singles matches to earn the 4-0 win. Hollins won 6-3, 6-2 on court three before Cecile Morin won 6-4, 6-1 on court six. The deciding point came on court five as Aida Maria Mitrache won 6-2, 6-2.
The Chanticleers advance to face No. 4 seed and No. 74 nationally ranked South Alabama at 10 a.m. ET.
Match 4: (9) Georgia State 4, (8) Texas State 3

Georgia State and Texas State split the opening courts of doubles as the pairing of Maria Paredes and Francesca Miglio secured the early Panther lead with the 7-5 win on court two.
Georgia State (10-13) added to its advantage with a 6-2, 6-1 win on court two from Sorias. The Panthers increased their lead to 2-0.
Texas State (11-8) responded with a trio of singles wins to take the 3-2 advantage. Maria Lora won 6-2, 6-4 on court six before Kiana Graham won 6-3, 6-4 on court one. Sofia Fortuno also won on court four 6-2, 2-6, 7-5 on court four.
Georgia State responded on court five as Sara Radojevic battled back after losing the tiebreak in the first set 6-3, 6-2. Tied at 3-3, the match came down to court three as Miglio provided the heroics in the third set with a 6-2 win to send the Panthers to the quarterfinals.
Georgia State will face regular season champion and No. 69 nationally ranked Old Dominion, who earned the No. 1 seed for the second consecutive year, at 10 a.m. ET.
Match 5: (6) Georgia Southern 4, (11) Louisiana 1

Georgia Southern (18-5) opened the match by securing the doubles point to lead 1-0. Sophie Wagemaker and Mackenzie Leopold won on court three 6-1, before Silivia Martinez and Lindsay Tulenko won 6-4 on court two to earn the early advantage.
Georgia Southern added to its lead on singles courts one and three to lead 3-0. Leopold won 6-4, 6-0 on court four before Ninon MArtinache won 6-4, 6-2 on court one.
Louisiana (7-12) picked up a point on court three as Angelique Berrat won 6-2, 6-4.
The Eagles closed out the match on court two as Martinez won 6-3, 6-2.
Georgia Southern advances to face No. 3 seed Troy in the quarterfinals at 2 p.m. ET.
Match 6: (7) App State 4, (10) James Madison 3

App State and James Madison split the opening doubles courts as the point was decided on court two. The pairing of Taya Powell and Olwyn Ryan-Bovey won the 7-6 tiebreak 7-1 to give App State the early 1-0 lead.
James Madison (8-13) responded to take a 2-1 lead with a pair of singles victories. Hope Moulin earned the 6-2, 6-1 decision on court four, before her teammate Cate Browerman won 6-1, 6-3 on court three.
App State (13-9) answered with a singles victory on court one as Singles First Team All-Conference member Savannah Dada-Mascoll won 6-3, 6-3.
James Madison took a 3-2 lead on court six as Alexandra Prudente won 6-3, 6-4. The remaining two courts were decided in the third set.
App State tied the match as Naledi Manyubi overcame a 6-3 loss in the first set by a 6-3, 6-1 score line on court five. On court two, after splitting the opening two sets, Powell again provided the heroics for the match point as she won the final frame 6-3.
App State advances to face No. 2 seed Marshall in the quarterfinals at 2 p.m. ET
