App State, Old Dominion, South Alabama and Troy Advance to Semifinals of 2024 Sun Belt Women’s Tennis Tournament

ROME, Ga. – App State, Old Dominion, South Alabama and Troy each won their matches in the Quarterfinals of the 2024 Sun Belt Conference Women’s Tennis Tournament at the Rome Tennis Center on Friday. 

No. 4 seed South Alabama won 4-0 over No. 5 seed Coastal Carolina as No. 1 overall seed Old Dominion defeated No. 9 seed Georgia State 4-0 in the morning matches. In the afternoon, No. 3 seed Troy defeated No. 6 seed Georgia Southern 4-2. No. 7 seed App State upset No. 2 seed Marshall in the final match of the day 4-3.
 
App State becomes the highest seed since 2019 to advance to the Semifinal Round of the Sun Belt Women’s Tennis Tournament. No. 1 Old Dominion will face No. 4 South Alabama as the Monarchs are the only team to return to the Semifinals from a year ago. No. 3 Troy will match up with No. 7 App State. Both matches will be played at 1 p.m. ET and will be broadcast live on ESPN+.

Match 7: (4) South Alabama 4, (5) Coastal Carolina 0

South Alabama (16-4) jumped out to an early 1-0 lead by securing the doubles point. Doubles First Team All-Conference pairing Elysia Pool and Tereza Dejnozkova won 6-3 on court one as Kiloa Novotna and Manal Ennaciri won 6-2 on court two.
 
Coastal Carolina finishes the season 14-9 after advancing to the quarterfinals of the tournament.
 
Singles Second Team All-Conference member Dejnozkova won the first singles match on court two 6-3, 6-0. Chems Doha Zeghlouli won on court five 6-2, 6-1 to give the Jaguars a 3-0 lead. Singles First Team All-Conference member Pool secured the victory on court one winning 6-2, 6-1 to send South Alabama to the Sun Belt Women’s Tennis Tournament Semifinals.
 
Match 8: (1) Old Dominion 4, (9) Georgia State 0

Old Dominion (15-5) won the doubles point to lead 1-0 early over Georgia State. Doubles First Team All-Conference pairing of Sofia Johnson and Lidiia Rasskouskaia took the first match on court one 6-2. Alexandra Viktorovich and Ulyana Romanova won the tiebreak on court two 7-6 (7-3).
 
Georgia State finishes the season 10-14 after advancing to the Quarterfinals.
 
Sun Belt Newcomer of the Year and Player to Watch Lidiia Rasskouskaia won the first singles match on court four 6-0, 6-0. Kira Matushkina also won 6-0, 6-0 on court five to give the Monarchs a 3-0 lead.
 
Sun Belt Freshman of the Year Ulyana Romanova secured the victory on court six 6-3, 6-1.
 
The Monarchs advance to the semifinal round for the second consecutive season.
 
Match 9: (3) Troy 4, (6) Georgia Southern 2
Box Score

Troy (15-6) started the match with a 1-0 lead after earning the doubles point. Doubles Second Team All-Conference duo Sonja Keranen and Ninon Martinache won 6-0 on court one for Georgia Southern. Doubles Second Team All-Conference duo Hagar Ramadan-Amin and Leena Metwally bounced back for Troy on court two 6-2. The pairing of Kristina Kukaras and Emilia Namyslo sealed the point for the Trojans 6-2 on court two.
 
Georgia Southern (18-6) responded with a pair of singles wins to take the 2-1 lead. Mackenzie Leopold won 6-4, 6-2 on court four as Singles First Team All-Conference member Ninon Martinache won 6-4, 6-4 on court one.
 
Troy answered with back to back wins on courts three (Maria Guirguis (7-5, 6-2)) and five (Leena Metwally (7-5, 6-2)) to regain the lead 3-2. Gabrielle Leslie won the tiebreak in set two 7-2 to secure the victory for the Trojans and send them to the Sun Belt Women’s Tennis Tournament Semifinals.
 
Match 10: (7) App State 4, (2) Marshall 3

In the most contested match of the tournament, No. 7 seed App State upset No. 2 seed Marshall 4-3. Both teams split the opening two courts of doubles as court one went to the tiebreak. App State secured an early 1-0 lead with the 8-6 tiebreaker from Savannah Dada-Mascoll and Ellie Murphy.
 
Marshall (18-8) responded with three singles victories to lead 3-1. Andjela Lopicic won 6-2, 6-4 on court six to start the rally. Singles Second Team All-Conference member Doroteja Joksovic won 6-4, 6-4 on court three. Rieke Gillar responded in the second and third set earn the point on court five 6-1, 6-3.
 
Trailing 3-1, App State won a trio of three set matches to secure the win. After Marshall won the second set on every court, the Mountaineers began the comeback on court two as Taya Powell won her second match of the tournament 6-4. Singles First Team All-Conference member Savannah Dada-Mascoll secured the 6-4 win on court one to tie the match 3-3. Maggie Pate provided the heroics for the Mountaineers on court four with the 6-3 win on court four to send App State to the Semifinals.
