NEW ORLEANS – James Madison senior midfielder Sophia Verrecchia and Old Dominion senior goalkeeper Emily Bredek led their respective teams with undefeated ledgers in non-league action to earn Sun Belt Conference Women’s Soccer Player of the Week honors.
A 2024 Preseason All-Sun Belt Team selection and the 2023 Sun Belt Goalkeeper of the Year, Bredek garners Defensive Player of the Week honors for the second time in her career and first since October 17, 2023, while Verrecchia takes home the Offensive Player of the Week nod for the first time.
Women’s Soccer Offensive Player of the Week
Sophia Verrecchia, James Madison

In two matches last week, Verrecchia registered five points while posting a goal and one assist in a 3-3 draw against La Salle on Aug. 22. She followed up that performance with a game-tying goal in the 88th minute to force a 1-1 draw in a road match against Maryland on Aug. 25.
Women’s Soccer Defensive Player of the Week
Emily Bredek, Old Dominion

Bredek had a big week in the net, as she recorded consecutive clean sheets in a pair of wins for the Monarchs. The senior opened the week with a stellar performance in a 2-0 win at William & Mary on Aug. 22. She recorded a career-high nine saves, including several point-blank stops as the Tribe peppered her with chances throughout the night. She was crucial in marshaling a defense that kept UNCW off the board in a 2-0 win on Aug. 25.
