NEW ORLEANS – Old Dominion redshirt senior guard Sean Durugordon has been named Sun Belt Conference Men’s Basketball Player of the Week after two dominant performances while leading the Monarchs to a 2-0 record on the road in conference play.
Durugordon averaged 23.5 points and 12.5 rebounds with a pair of 20-point performances while shooting 16-for-27 (.593) from the floor and 12-for-14 (857) at the free throw line in the Monarchs’ road victories over Louisiana and South Alabama.
A Harlem, N.Y., native, Durugordon recorded his fourth double-double of the season with a season-high 27 points, a career-high 18 rebounds and a pair of blocks in a 71-63 overtime win over first-place South Alabama on Jan. 11. He shot 11 of 18 from the field and scored five of his team’s eight points in overtime, while eight of his rebounds came off the offensive glass.
Two days prior, Durugordon shot 5-for-9 from the field, made two 3-poointers and shot 8-for-8 at the free throw line to finish with 20 points, seven rebounds and two steals in a 71-60 over the Ragin’ Cajuns.
Durugordon is Old Dominion’s second player in the last four weeks to earn the Sun Belt’s top weekly honor after teammate Robert Davis Jr., was recognized on Dec. 24.
