NEW ORLEANS – Just a day after being named the Lou Henson National Player of the Week, Texas State redshirt senior forward Tylan Pope added to his accolades with his first Sun Belt Conference Player of the Week honor.
Pope is the second Texas State player to earn the league’s top weekly honor this season and first since Tyrel Morgan on Dec. 31.
Pope posted two double-doubles while averaging 24 points, 12 rebounds and four blocks per game while shooting 52 percent from the floor in conference home wins over Georgia State and Southern Miss.
A Franklinton, La., native, Pope registered a 20-point, 12-rebound performance where he shot 9-for-13 from the field, including 2-for-2 from 3-point range, in a 94-80 win over the Panthers on Jan. 15. He also added three blocks, two steals and an assist in the effort.
On Jan. 18, Pope scored a career-high 28 points and pulled down 12 boards with a personal-best five blocks in an 85-82 overtime win against the Golden Eagles. The 6-6 forward shot 8-for-20 from the field and 11-for-14 at the foul line, including the game-tying free throw with 9.1 seconds left in regulation to send the game to overtime.
