Troy’s Tayton Conerway Secures Sun Belt Men’s Basketball Player of the Week

NEW ORLEANS – Troy senior guard Tayton Conerway has been named Sun Belt Conference Men’s Basketball Player of the Week after leading the Trojans to a pair of road wins in league play to start the New Year.

Conerway is Troy’s second player to earn the Sun Belt’s top weekly honor and the first since teammate Jackson Fields following the season’s first week of games.

A Preseason All-Sun Belt Second Team selection, Conerway averaged 18 points, four rebounds, 5.5 assists and 3.5 steals per game while shooting 63 percent from the field and 62 percent beyond the 3-point arc in the two contests.

A Burleson, Texas native, Conerway scored a team-high 16 points while shooting 4-for-4 from the field – all 3-pointers – and dishing out a career-high eight assists in a 69-61 victory at App State on Jan. 2. His four treys were also a career best.

In Troy's 58-57 comeback win at Marshall on Jan. 4, Conerway shot 8-for-15 from the field and buried four 3-pointers en route to scoring a career-high 20 points. He also recorded five steals, four rebounds and three assists and has now tallied multiple steals in nine consecutive games and 12 of 14 overall.
