Football Offensive Player of the Week
Alonza Barnett III, James Madison
(RS Jr., QB – Whitsett, N.C.)
Dukes redshirt junior quarterback Alonza Barnett III accounted for six touchdowns in a dominant 63-27 Royal Rivalry victory over Old Dominion. The Whitsett, N.C., native completed 17-of-25 passes for 295 yards and two touchdowns, while rushing for a career-best 153 yards and four touchdowns. His four rushing touchdowns were the most by a Duke in a game since 1999. After trailing 27-21 in the second quarter, Barnett and the offense reeled off 42 unanswered points to secure the rivalry win, stay unbeaten in Sun Belt play and clinch bowl eligibility.
Football Defensive Player of the Week
Treylin Payne, Texas State
(Sr., LB – San Antonio, Texas)
Bobcats senior linebacker Treylin Payne tallied a single-game program record 24 tackles in Texas State’s 40-37 double-overtime loss to Marshall. The San Antonio, Texas, native’s tackle tally snapped a 37-year-old Bobcat record—23 tackles by Brad Fulks against Texas A&M Kingsville in 1988. Payne’s mark also tied for the second-most in Sun Belt Conference history, trailing only a 25 tackle performance by Arkansas State’s Tyrell Johnson against North Texas in 2005. Payne also added 1.5 tackles for loss in the cross-division clash.
Football Special Teams Player of the Week
Lorcan Quinn, Marshall
(Fr., K – Donaghmore, Ireland)
Thundering Herd freshman kicker Lorcan Quinn tied a Marshall single-game program record with four field goals in a 40-37 double overtime win over Texas State. The Donaghmore, Ireland, product went a perfect 4-for-4 on field goal attempts, scoring 14 points with field goals of 48, 31, 27 and 23 yards. Quinn, who owns the Sun Belt’s longest field goal of the season at 53 yards and leads the conference with 12 field goals made, also placed all seven of his kickoffs into the end zone with six being touchbacks.
