NEW ORLEANS – App State redshirt senior guard Myles Tate has been named Sun Belt Conference Men’s Basketball Player of the Week after leading the Mountaineers to a conference home win and a MAC-SBC Challenge road victory.
In App State’s 2-0 week against Southern Miss and Ohio, Tate averaged 17.5 points, nine assists and six rebounds per game. He scored a career-high 27 points in the 72-59 road win at Ohio on Feb. 8 as part of the MAC-SBC Challenge after dishing out a career-high 11 assists in a 60-58 home win over Southern Miss on Feb. 5.
Tate compiled eight points, 11 assists and seven rebounds and delivered his final assist on a dunk by C.J. Huntley who beat the buzzer to down the Golden Eagles. His 11 assists marked his second double-digit performance of the season.
The Spartanburg, S.C., native wrapped up his week with an 8-for-16 shooting effort while scoring 18 of his 27 points in the second half to help erase a six-point deficit and complete a comeback over the Bobcats. Tate also handed out seven assists and grabbed five boards in the contest.
