NEW ORLEANS – Georgia State senior center Cesare Edwards has been named Sun Belt Conference Men’s Basketball Player of the Week after averaging a double-double while leading the Panthers to a 2-0 record in league play.
Edwards averaged 26.5 points, 10 rebounds and 3.5 blocks per game while shooting 23-for-32 (.719) from the field. The Hartsville, S.C., native recorded a double-double with a career-high 29 points and 11 rebounds on 12-for-13 shooting from the floor with four blocks and two assists in the Panthers' 97-75 home win over Old Dominion on Feb. 13.
Two days later, Edwards played all 40 minutes and scored 24 points on 11-of-19 shooting to go with nine rebounds and three blocks in Georgia State’s 70-65 home win over App State. He also shot 2-for-3 beyond the 3-point arc in the contest.
Edwards is the first Georgia State player to receive the league’s top weekly honor since Corey Allen on Nov. 16, 2021.
