Troy Advances to Great 8 of WNIT, James Madison Falls in Quarterfinals of WBIT

NEW ORLEANS – Troy advances to the Great 8 of the WNIT, while James Madison sees its season come to an end in the WBIT.

Troy (22-13, 13-5) is the last Sun Belt team on both men’s and women’s side to still be playing in the post season after a 88-86 overtime win over North Texas (25-9, 15-3) in WNIT.

Troy improved to 5-3 all-time in the WNIT and advanced to the Great 8 for the second consecutive season, facing North Dakota State on Monday at 7 p.m. (CT) in Fargo, N.D. A win over the Bison would put Troy in the WNIT Fab 4 for the second straight season.

Zay Dyer posted a league leading 17th double-double of the season, with 23 points and 13 rebounds to lead the Trojans. With 363 rebounds on the year Dyer now holds the Troy single season record.
 
Shaulana Wagner had her second consecutive double-double and third of the season, with 17 points and 10 assists, while Briana Peguro and Brianna Jackson finished with 14 points and Emani Jenkins added 10 points.

The Sun Belt regular season champions, James Madison (30-6, 18-0), lost 90-45 to Belmont in the WNIT Quarterfinals on Thursday night.

Belmont (25-12, 15-5 MVC) controlled the game from start to finish, including a 39-4 run during the second and third quarters, and their WBIT record 18 three-pointers.

Angela Williams led the Dukes in points with ten and rebounds with six and steals with three, while Ro Scott finished with eight points and two assists. 

The Dukes season ends with a program single season record 30 wins.
