Old Dominion and Marshall Advance to Sun Belt Conference Women’s Tennis Championship Match

ROME, Ga. – Old Dominion and Marshall each won their semifinal matches on Saturday in the 2025 Sun Belt Conference Women’s Tennis Championship at the Rome Tennis Center. Each team secured a spot in the event’s championship match to be contested on Sunday. 
 
No. 46 nationally ranked and top-seeded Old Dominion led on every court and didn’t lose a set en route to a 4-0 victory in the semifinals. No. 72 nationally ranked and sixth-seeded Marshall used the momentum from the doubles point to secure the 4-1 victory and the Thundering Herd’s first Sun Belt Women’s Tennis Championship Match appearance.

Old Dominion will face Marshall at 1 p.m. ET on Sunday and the match will be broadcast live on ESPN+. 

Match 7: (1) Old Dominion 4, (5) James Madison 0

Old Dominion (18-4) never trailed in the 4-0 semifinal win. The pair of Sun Belt First Team All-Conference doubles teams secured the early point. Marina Markina and Kira Matushkina won 6-0 on court three as Sofia Johnson and Victoria Matasova won 6-2 on court one.
 
With no matches entering the third set, Old Dominion was led by First Team All-Conference Singles performer Lidiia Rasskouskaia on court three with a 6-1, 6-1 win to take the 2-0 lead.
 
Ulyana Romanova followed suite on court four with a 6-2, 6-3 win to put the Monarchs on match point. Marina Markina provided the final tally on court six with a 6-1, 6-4 finish.
 
James Madison finishes the season 10-13 as Old Dominion returns to the title tilt for the third consecutive year.

Match 8: (6) Marshall 4, (7) Troy 1

Marshall (20-5) led on all three doubles courts to take the early lead. Alina Mokrynskaya and Emma Vanderheyden won 6-1 on court one as the First Team All-Conference Doubles pairing of Sophia Hurrion and Aisling McGrane also won 6-1 for the 1-0 lead.
 
McGrane was the first to finish in singles on court four via a 6-3, 6-0 win. First Team All-Conference Singles player Johanna Strom followed at No. 1 singles with a 6-3, 6-0 win to give the Thundering Herd a commanding 3-0 lead.
 
Troy (13-10) forced a trio of third set matches and led on five before the match finished. Maria Guirguis provided the lone point for the Trojans on court two with a 2-6, 6-4, 6-1 win.
 
For the second day in a row, Mokryskaya provided the heroics on court three by bouncing back in the final two sets to win 2-6, 6-4, 6-2. With the win, Marshall advances to its first appearance in the Sun Belt Conference Women’s Tennis Championship Match.
