Marshall’s Souza & Old Dominion’s Kulha Earn Sun Belt Women’s Soccer Player of the Week Honors

NEW ORLEANS – Marshall freshman forward Geovanna Souza and Old Dominion junior defender Ashlynn Kulha received Sun Belt Conference Women’s Soccer Player of the Week honors following the 2025 season’s second week of competition.
 
Souza collects her first Sun Belt Offensive Player of the Week accolade and the first for Marshall since Kat Gonzalez on Oct. 25, 2022. Kulha nets her fourth Sun Belt Defensive Player of the Week award and first since accomplishing the feat in back-to-back weeks Oct. 1 and Oct. 8 during the 2024 season.

Women’s Soccer Offensive Player of the Week
Geovanna Souza, Marshall

Souza tallied six points on two goals and a pair of assists in two victories to keep the Thundering Herd unbeaten in August. The freshman striker scored the first goal of the match and later chipped in an assist in a 6-0 home win over Glenville State (8/20). Souza was effective once again in the Herd’s 2-1 road win at Ohio (8/24), scoring a goal and earning an assist on the team’s second score within the first 10 minutes of the match.

Women’s Soccer Defensive Player of the Week
Ashlynn, Kulha, Old Dominion

Kulha marshaled a back line that allowed just one shot in a 2-0 home win over Big Ten Conference foe Maryland (8/24). The Preseason Sun Belt Defensive Player of the Year played all 90 minutes and scored her first goal of the season on a diving header off a set piece early in the second half for the Monarchs’ second tally of the contest.
